LISNA Feb 25, 2018 – Dato' Nafisah Binti Ahmad The Director General of Malaysian National Library visited Al-Zahra University of Tehran today. Al-Zahra is one of the woman-only universities that is among the top ranked public universities of the country.

The Director General of Malaysian National Library is in Iran to attend the 80th anniversary of National Library of Iran. She expressed her gratitude for being invited to this event. "Visiting Iran was one of my personal goals and I am glad that despite many obstacles I was able to visit Iran at last." She said "I believe that the library and information science in Iran is doing well."

She also expressed her astonishment to see so many women librarians in Iran. "As a woman I feel so proud to see so many women librarians in Iran." She stated "I didn't think many women would be working in this field, now my perception has changed. I think the Muslim countries should be proud of Iran's development in this field."  

Dato' Ahmad described Iran as "unique" for building a special university for women. "We don’t have such universities in Malaysia." She said

 

When asked about future cooperation of Iran and Malaysia in library and information science she replied: "We cooperate a lot with the Iranian embassy in Malaysia on culture and heritage.  We have a good relationship with Iran. Maybe after this trip we will extend our cooperation with the National Library of Iran."
